The seaside towns of Sidmouth & Budleigh Salterton are close by where you can find splendid coastal walks along the South West Coast Path.
For families in search of some sandcastle making, Exmouth beach with its long stretch of sand is ideal. In the other direction is the Jurassic Coast with Lyme Regis and Seaton where you can try your hand at fossil hunting.
It also boasts a multitude of chain and privately owned restaurants and both cinemas and theatres to suit all entertainment requirements.
- The Thirsty Farmer is a very good pub which is happy to accommodate children and is an easy ten minute walk from the cottage.
- The Jack in the Green on Rockbeare straight (about ten minute drive away) is an excellent, award winning restaurant and bar, well worth a visit.
- Also there is a good Chinese Restaurant and take-away on Rockbeare Straight.
Exeter offers cinemas and theatres and of course the beautiful cathedral. The Museum is worth a visit, as is the Quay. There are numerous happenings during the summer months and these are usually listed in the cottage. There are also a number of National Trust properties in the area.
Higher Yellands Cottage lies close to Dartmoor National Park where you can surround yourself in beautiful scenery and participate in a host of activites, from walking and cycling to horse riding and letterboxing – Dartmoor has something for everyone all year round.
